Patients who develop delirium during hospitalization in the intensive care unit (ICU) are at higher risk of developing dementia. This project will establish a foundation for studying the physiologic changes in the brain that indicate ICU delirium and predict long-term cognitive impairment.

Narrative:

People who undergo treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) are at risk of developing post-intensive care syndrome (PICS), including new or worsening anxiety, depression, brain fogging and/or post-traumatic stress symptoms. The goal of this project is to identify the most effective ways to provide interactive, computer-based brain relaxation training sessions to help combat the effects of PICS in ICU survivors.
